Come on folks, the only time Jane laughs is with Lisbon, or has something to do with her. In Episode 1 Season 3 I don't know how many times he laughed with her.

He lost his wife and child, Lisbon lost her mum and dad. The whole thing with Red JOhn this 2 seasons. Maybe Jane also thinks that if he loose Lisbon he can never love again.
