This award goes to the fic with the best Jane/Lisbon confession, where Jane and Lisbon finally admit their feelings for one another.

“Since you guys aren’t in mad passionate love, then the divorce wouldn’t be crazy, or disruptive. And your little bundle of joy could live with Kevvy-Sweetheart and you could live with me, and she could stay with us when we got home. Kevin could move into an apartment in the building, and problem solved. No white picket fence, but we can worry about that later. I mean, I know you feel like you’re betraying Kevin, and the whole marriage thing, but it won’t feel like that to him, and I hate to tell you, but eventually, you guys are probably going to break up anyway, or be really miserable. So you’ll only be hurting him worse than if you split now. And you guys might not even get hurt if you split now. So everyone wins.” When she said nothing Jane added, “Yay!”

“Jane?”

“Yeah?”

“Did you just ask me to move in with you? To leave my husband and move in with you as a boyfriend/girlfriend?”

“Um – yes?” he waited for a slap, or a disdainful comment, but none came. He glanced up at her fearfully. Lisbon was smiling, a dreamy look on her face. “Are you okay?”

“It’s like a movie where all my dreams come true,” she sighed happily, playing the part of the contented princess with relative ease, and then gasped. “Jane!”

“What’s wrong?”

“I think she likes the idea.”

“Huh?” Lisbon grabbed his hand and settled it on her stomach. The tiny girl inside was kicking wildly.

“Well, it is a pretty brilliant idea if I do say so myself.”

“You know, sweetie,” Lisbon told her daughter, “You’d better stop before his ego gets any bigger.”

“Does anyone here know a reason of why this couple should not be married?” the vicar spoke, and Lisbon only vaguely heard the words. There was silence. Then, out of the corner of her eye, she saw someone stand up.

She could hear the collective intake of breath as everyone wondered what the
man was going to say.

“Yes, sir?”

The vicar looked slightly worried. More concerned than Lisbon, at any rate.

Jane looked directly at Lisbon. “Because I love her.” Lisbon’s hand flew to her mouth, surprised, but somehow happy. Meanwhile, Sam Bosco looked less than happy. In fact, he was fuming.

“You can feel a heavy, relaxed feeling coming over you. And as I continue to talk, that heavy relaxed feeling will get stronger and stronger, until it carries you into a deep, peaceful state of hypnosis.” Jane’s voice was mesmerizing, and Lisbon could feel herself beginning to actually feel relaxed and peaceful. “Every word that I utter is putting you faster and deeper, and faster and deeper, into a deep, peaceful state of hypnosis. Now you are resting comfortably in a deep, peaceful state of hypnosis, going deeper and faster and deeper and faster all of the time, until I bring you back. You will only accept those suggestions which are for your benefit, and that you are willing to accept."

Jane gently let go of her hands, and moved back slightly, careful not to make any sudden moves or noises.

“What do you most want to do, Teresa?” He asked her, wondering what it would be. To his surprise, Lisbon stood up and walked toward him. He eyed her carefully, hoping that it wasn’t something like ‘shoot Patrick Jane for being such a jackass.’

To his surprise, he felt himself tilting his head too, as if he was in a trance as well. Technically, he was. His lips touched her, and he was surprised at the fireworks that set off in his senses. He rested his hands on her slender hips, while her arms slid behind his neck. Finally, the need for air got the better of both of them. Jane was about to say something, when he realized Lisbon was still in a trance.

“When you saw the Harris girl, all you could see was yourself,” he muttered, cursing himself as he did, “when you killed your father. What happened, Lisbon? Surely you had a reason?”

“What do you care?” she snapped, “tomorrow, I’ll probably just be back to normal and nobody will know any different. Nobody will care.”

“I do,” he shouted in reply. “I care, Lis- Teresa!”

“Why?”

“Because I love you, alright,” he whispered, before continuing, louder, “I love you and I don’t want to lose you.”

Moment:

Instead of taking a drink, she glanced back over at the bartender. They tended to keep an eye on steady drinkers, first to run up their bill and then to cut them off before they caused trouble. People who have spent the entire evening drinking water, however, tended to get ignored.

She turned back to Jane. "If the bartender isn't worried about you, I won't be."

His expression flickered closed, and Lisbon had a heartbeat to wish she hadn't said it before his gaze slid back down to his drink. "Stay worried about me." His voice was so low she could barely hear him. "I need it."

NB: It's not a confession of love, but it is Jane opening up. I hope that qualifies enough.

“But you know, some things you just can’t fix. It’s just the way of the world, isn’t it?” Lisbon snapped at Jane, bracing herself for his reaction.

Instead of a quick reply, Jane just sat there, mulling over what he wanted to say to Lisbon. Hearing his words thrown back at him was like having ice water dumped on him. Although he was afraid to admit it out loud, Jane cared deeply for his green-eyed, raven-haired boss. The thought of almost losing the only woman that meant something to him, and in a non-platonic way, made his head spin. He needed Lisbon to hear him out, to try and understand how things had changed since their last conversation.

“Lisbon, you don’t realize how much you mean to me,” whispered Jane, his voice unsteady.

Jane’s comment threw Lisbon completely off. Whatever she was expecting him to say, it definitely was not that. The confusion she felt must have been apparent on her face, because Jane spoke again.

“You are the one person I have complete faith in, Lisbon, and I hope you know by now you can trust me too. I have your back. Always.”

Nominee: It's Beautiful Here

Lisbon’s breath caught in her throat as she turned the card over and saw that it had no stamp. The back read, “You’re beautiful here. I wished for you every day. PS. I think I love you.” Lisbon choked back tears. She slowly looked up, knowing that she’d find him standing in her doorway when she did.

And so he was, three piece suit and cocky grin and all. But there was something else as well. A sense of peace about him. A calmness in his face and eyes she had never seen before. She saw his glance move to the wall of postcards and she felt herself blush slightly.

“They were all beautiful places,” he said. Lisbon felt his words wash over her. It was so good to hear his voice again. “But they’ll be better next time,” he added, “when we go together.”

With that, Lisbon was out of her chair and in his arms. She tucked her head into his neck and wet his shoulder with her tears. He held her tightly, one hand in her hair and another on her back, and felt himself breath easily for the first time in much too long. Neither noticed when the other three agents walked in, saw the pair, and decided to go get coffee across the street.

Moment:

"You okay?" He asks, startled by tears suddenly gleaming in her eyes.

"I'm happy." Looking into this eyes, she realizes that she doesn't need many, complicated words or a lengthy, sophisticated speech to let him know how she feels. It's pure and simple and surprisingly not scary at all.

"I love you." She says, plainly, and watches his eyes flicker.

He goes through a rainbow of emotions, starting with surprise and ending with rapture, before his face moves so close to hers that it blurs in front of her eyes.

"That's good." His lips softly touch hers and his eyelashes flutter against her cheek. "Because I love you, too."

"I really want this to work." Teresa tells him after he pulls away to look into her eyes again.

"It will."

"Yeah, I have a pretty good feeling about this as well." She smiles at him with newly discovered certainty.

"Hey, generally speaking, what is your opinion on the institution of marriage?" Apparently he is already one step ahead of her.

At first, she doesn't know whether to panic, or be happy. But after getting over the initial shock, she opts for smiling. "I'm not completely opposed to it. I think I'd look good in a wedding gown."

"Yes, you would."

"But," She clarifies. "I refuse to squeeze my pregnant belly into one."

"Noted. I'll save the big, pompous proposal until after the birth then." He tells her with a smirk and changes his position to rest his head on her belly.

She watches him talk to their son and feels his kisses tickling her skin, overwhelmed by the realization to really, finally feel completely at home.

"You really promised Minelli to keep your hands off me at work?" She asks flirtatiously. "Luckily I didn't. I don't really trust my hands, now that they acquired a serious liking for touching you."

She grins at him and gives in to the urge to bury her hands in his curls - partly to emphasize her statement, but mainly just because she finally can.
